Family Feud - Week 1

Summary: You can't live well if you don't love well

Key Scripture (1 Corinthians 13:4): Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

How We Define Family:

  • A group of people living under one roof [household]
  • A group of people of common ancestry [clan]
  • A group of people united by certain convictions or a common affiliation [church, neighbourhood]

Important Takeaway: A dysfunctional family is any family with more than one person in it.

Key Scripture (Philippians 2:1): Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

The Most Important Qualities Of A Healthy Family:

  • Unconditional Love: A type of love that cannot simply be understood - it must be experienced
  • Common Values: Like-minded goals that become common practice/habits [Example: Our family values travel and new experiences]
  • Quality Time: Meeting together regularly - carving out time within the schedule

Conclusion:

  • You can't live well if you don't love well
  • Don't "do" relationships; instead, "be" relational
